Location: North of Scotland
Position Type: Paid/Fixed Term Contract

Please read the following carefully. Attention to detail is one of the candidate selection criteria.
Alba Ecology Ltd. is an ecological consultancy based in the North-east of Scotland but working throughout the UK and Ireland. Established in 2005, the company has built a reputation for a very high standard of work. Primarily our focus is on protected species and environmental impact assessments.

We require a field ecologist for a fixed-term of 12 months, starting on 1st April 2010 or as soon afterwards as practicable, based in the north of Scotland.

This post will suit an all-weather birder who enjoys hillwalking in the highlands of Scotland. Excellent field skills are essential and far more important in this case than academic qualifications. Training will be given in field methods, but identification skills take years to acquire and candidates will be expected to be able to identify, as a minimum, all Scottish birds by sight and sound.

Candidates please note the following essential requirements:

- Full clean driving licence
- Excellent birding skills, and some experience of bird survey work, professional or voluntary
- Ability to work unsupervised and under own initiative, often starting very early in the morning
- Ability to work hard in rough and hilly country, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to keep neat and tidy records

While not essential, the following attributes would be advantageous:

- Ability to identify other groups of British animals or plants
- Training in ecology or other scientific discipline

Please apply by telephone in the first instance.
