Ecologist working in Scotland, £20K + expenses, full-time, 12 months fixed-term. Alba Ecology Ltd. is a successful ecological consultancy team based in the North-east of Scotland but working throughout the UK and Ireland. The company has built a reputation for a very high standard of work. Primarily our focus is on wildlife research, especially advising on protected species and environmental impact assessments. We require a keen and motivated ecologist for a fixed-term of 12 months initially, starting April or May 2010 or as soon as practicable, to work on a variety of sites, mainly in the north of Scotland. This post will have a high proportion of field survey work on birds and will suit an all-weather birder who enjoys hillwalking. Excellent ornithological field skills are essential. Training will be given in particular field survey methods, but candidates will be expected to be proficient in bird identification and be able to identify all Scottish birds by sight and sound. Candidates please note the following essential requirements: - Full clean driving licence - Excellent birding skills, and some experience of bird survey work, professional or voluntary, e.g. BTO - Ability to work unsupervised and under own initiative, often starting very early in the morning, setting own timetables and being motivated enough to maintain work schedules independently - Ability to work hard in rough and hilly country, sometimes in adverse weather conditions - Ability to keep meticulous and neat records of data collected - Good communication skills While not essential, the following attributes would be advantageous: - Ability to identify other groups of British animals or plants - Academic training in ecology or other scientific discipline Please apply by telephone in the first instance.
