There was a steady stream of Swifts moving south down the Kincardineshire coast all afternoon. I counted 216 in one 10-minute period, so there must have been 1000s in total. Also probably 100s of Sand Martins going south amongst them. |

There were loads of Swifts at Loch of Skene yesterday evening - my best estimate was 2500, but there can't be many birds more difficult to try counting! Birds of Scotland suggests that these will be largely from the Aberdeen population - does anybody know whether they've done particularly well in Aberdeen this summer? I also estimated 600 Sand Martins at Skene, but there were just 1 House Martin & a few Swallows as far as I could see.

Good Swift numbers today over S. Aberdeen (many very high up). Owing to their habit of zipping around difficult to estimate true numbers, but certainly a couple of hundred so far. 1 Common Buzzard & 2 Sparrowhawk also.

I had hundreds of Swallows and Martins past Longside today (also a few Swifts), mostly heading SW.
