Grampian is a large region of Scotland, taking up the whole of the north-east, incorporating the old "counties" of Morayshire, Banffshire, Aberdeenshire, and Kincardineshire. The main population centre is Aberdeen, on the east coast, which is good base for travelling to other parts; Braemar and the Cairngorm mountains are around 1 hour's drive, Elgin and Nairn on the north coast around 1 and 1/2 hour's drive.
